For the love of EYEWEAR!

 

For the love of eyewear. That's why 35-year old artist Steve Beatty is creating a pair of giant l.a.Eyeworks frames. Steve contacted us several months ago, after searching for the perfect pair of glasses he wanted to create as a giant sculpture. The l.a.Eyeworks "Perk" captured exactly what he wanted to say. We immediately sent Steve a Perk, and he regaled us for weeks with imagery of his progress. From wooden molds, to clay and oil sculpture, to the sand cast, we followed the evolution of the giant piece. Even after watching the processes, we were astonished by his final sculpture.

 

 

The normally plastic frame was cast in metal, so Steve could capture the sculptural qualities of the eyewear. "There are so many subtle curves that they would have been almost impossible to fabricate otherwise," said the artist. "Glasses change the way I think about a lot of things from playing basketball to walking in the rain. I want people to see the world through my eyes and to do that they are going to need glasses."
